5/26/2019 0 Comments Paul Carter Base Building ManualIs one of my favorite blogs which is by powerlifter and trainer Paul Carter who is pretty well known and respected in the lifting world. Goodbye mr cool movie. Pauls latest book is his manual Base building is not an ‘add weight to the bar’ program Base building progression involves multiple sets of sub maximal training perecentages based on the lifters every day max, Compensatory acceleration training (moving the bar as fast as possible all the way through the lift), getting faster and faster with the same weight and getting the same work done in a shorter period of time, all this is done to improve technique in the main lifts and build a bigger and stronger ‘base’ to get bigger and stronger from. Each lift has different programming and phases for instance the squat starts out with a submaximal percentage for multiple sets of 5 you stay with the same weight for as long as possible. You concentrate on moving the weight as fast as possible getting faster week by week while bringing down the rest periods over time, this progression makes you stronger and pushes your everyday max up When the phase has been milked you move onto the next phase with different percentages and rep ranges paul describes clearly in the book why and when to move to the next phase. With Basebuilding the assistance work is kept low and going to failure is avoided by using the sub maximal intensites and the prescribed reps. Basebuilding is what im going to be using for a while but this is only a very brief description. For the full information please read the manual there are 26 short but strait to the point chapters with no fluff or bullshit also in the book is improved Strong 15 programming and a new mass routine.
